Thetford’s run away success

Thetford has a run away success on its hands! Figures presented to a Moving Thetford Forward (MTF) meeting show that the Thetford Parkrun now has over 600 registered runners, 40 registered volunteers and participants ranging from five to 70 years.

With an impressive 10,820km clocked up by participants since the first event in February 2013, Thetford Parkrun has more than achieved its aim of creating a free, safe and sustainable community-led event and improving health and fitness in the local area

Thetford Parkrun is a free event that is open to people of all ages and abilities. The event was set up by town resident Melanie Floyd, with grants from Moving Thetford Forward and Active Norfolk, and the help of Breckland Council’s Communties Team. Participants meet at 9am every Saturday morning at The Priory and run a set 5k route around Abbey Meadows.

Melanie Floyd said: “There’s a really friendly atmosphere and everyone feels supported.”

There is now also a second, sister run on Tuesday evenings. For more information about Thetford Park Run, look on the Thetford Parkrun website www.parkrun.org.uk/thetford. For more information about MTF look on the website www.movingthetfordforward.com or call Kevin Ward on 01362 656870.
